The value of the check is fixed and it cannot be negotiated or changed. The amount entered in the check is the exact amount anyone who deposits this check will get. Not a dollar more and not a dollar less. That is why checks are called non-negotiable instruments.

You can cash a check written by you against your own account up to the amount you have in the bank (unless you must maintain a "minimum balance" to keep the account open).
