Many people, as they get older, realize that the small amount of weight they’ve gained every year, sometimes less than a pound, has really added up. After just ten years a person might be up to 20 pounds overweight. Not only will you have less energy, but you will have a higher risk for many diseases including heart, liver and kidney diseases. If you have gotten to the point where you decide it’s time to lose weight, congratulations. Most weight loss will occur when you make lifestyle changes including diet and exercise, but it can often take a while. However there are ways that you can lose weight quickly without putting yourself in danger.

There are several different methods of weight loss overall. First, you can increase your activity level so that you burn more calories every day. However, this is rarely enough and sometimes increasing the activity level will cause a person to eat more. Not only should you increase your activity level, but you should also improve your diet so that you are consuming fewer empty calories. Whether or not you are able to lose weight quickly will greatly depend on how much you are able to cut back your empty calories. Empty calories are found in many foods like cookies, chips, sodas and more. If you want to experience fast weight loss, get rid of these types of food.

In addition to changing your diet for the better, try to increase your activity level by half. If you did not exercise before, then simply start at 20 minutes a day and work your way up to 45 or 60 minutes, adding 5 minutes per week. You will essentially be jump-starting your metabolism by increasing your activity level in this manner. Weight loss is inevitable if you change your diet and increase your workout times. Essentially, weight loss comes down to one simple equation: If you burn more calories than you eat every day, you will lose weight. If you don’t, you will continue maintaining. Take care not to cut too many calories, though, as this can have adverse effects on your mind or body, and can actually cause your metabolism to slow down.
