BMW M3 is design with their engine specs, any changes to this car like different engine size, torque or weight, will alter the suspesion dynamics and handling not to metion weight distribution ratio.
It should fit, the engine size are the same. I think its still based off the M52 Inline-6, just the displacement is different (2.5L to 3.0L)
Yes, they will bolt on. But if the 1999 car is an E36 you might have some issues with the electrical to sort out. Ideally if they are both E46 you should swap the DME from the donor car along with the engine, otherwise you are not running the engine to its full potential.
