The maximum amount allowed daily is 4 g or 4000 mg. Therefore, taking 5000 mg in 6 hours is technically an overdose and potentially toxic. However, if it is only done once it will most likely not cause any serious damage, and the liver will repair itself. You may experience nausea or vomiting, paleness, and/or sweating as symptoms, but as previously stated the damage will most likely be minimal, and these will probably be your only symptoms. If you don't have any of those symptoms in the next day or two, you will be fine.

It could. The FDA recently recommended reducing the dosage from 1000 mg per dose to 650 mg per dose due to its toxicity.
