1st check fuel filter, air filter, fuel pump. You may also want to run some fuel injector cleaner (or carb cleaner if it's an 88 or 89 without FI).
Also check for any vacume lines which may be split or have come off, check the oil cap and oil dipstick are on tight (seriously), and check the PCV valve is in place and not clogged (you can pull the PCV valve out and shake it up and down. It should rattle just a bit. If not, it's clogged).
If it's only recently started idling improperly, it could be bad gas as well.
ford festiva stopped while driving it has fuel and power it just wont turn over
A Ford Escort might not idle properly if the throttle position sensor is not functioning properly. This part is a plug in that is on the side of the carburetor (throttle body).
Idle Air Control Valve....if this breaks you car wont idle properly....the rpm will go up then down all the time when idling
If your 1976 Ford with 360 won't idle, check to ensure the air filter and fuel filter are free from debris. This can also indicate a problem with the carburetor.
A lack of fuel. Can cause your vehicle not to idle. A dirty fuel filter can cause the same problem. The fuel injection pump can also cause your vehicle to not idle properly.
could be a bad vacume hose. somtimes they can fall off and the engin will not run right.
Well FORD is a pos, Fixed Or Repaired Dailiy Found On Road Dead
You need to adjust your idle speed on your carburator.
1st check your air flow sensor, then the fuel pump.
The idle control valve needs to be replaced. It's mounted behind the throttle body. Just replaced mine to fix same problem. Cost $65.00 at auto parts store.
we have a ford escort lx and it wont start without the gas throttle half way then it starts but is very rough but wont idle by itself
