The sun is called a star because it meets the requirements characteristic of stars. Our local star is a massive ball of gravitationally bound plasma that is highly luminous. Just like other stars.

The sun is often referred to as "the Sun" with a capital "S" because it is our closest star and the primary source of light and energy for Earth. Other stars are simply referred to as "stars" to distinguish them from our own Sun.

good question karen321!

The sun is just a name that us humans gave to the star. the Sun is a very special star that provides heat and light to us on earth and made everything light. No other star can do this on its own. This is why we gave it the name.

Any star can have planets orbiting it. They have found such star in the universe. We do not know yet if it can hold light or not. But you can say that those stars are suns also. There are many suns in our universe.
