What are you celibrating on Easter and why is this event so important to christians?

Christians celebrate the resurrection of Jesus of Nazareth, Who is the Messiah promised to the Jewish people thousands of years earlier (although most Jews have not yet seen that Jesus is the fulfillment of the prophecies of the Tanach) and Who's covenant was extended to gentiles through His rejection by the Jewish people (although the blinders will be removed from their hearts and they will share in the fulfillment of the covenant in due time). Jesus was executed by the Roman government almost 2000 years ago and came back to life two days later. The resurrection of Jesus is the foundation of the entire Christian religion. Therefore, Resurrection Sunday is the greatest celebration of the year for many believers.

Why does Easter matter?

The events surrounding Easter are the centralpart of the Christian faith. Jesus was executed on a Friday, but on the following Sunday, Christians believe, and a belief based on firm evidence, that Jesus Christ rose again. Because of this unique resurrection, Christ's divinity is proved and his life, teachings and claims validated. Easter Day is the commemoration and celebration of Christ's resurrection and so it is immensel important; some would also say that without the resurrection the Christian faith would not exist.
