Mitosis is used for several purposes

1. Growth. the embryo increases in size due to mitosis. Enlargement of the embryo, young child and growth during puberty is due in part to increasing the number of cells.

2. Repair. If you cut yourself, or an incision is made during surgery, the hole is closed by cells dividing to close the space created by the wound.

3. Replacement. Some cells wear out rapidly (blood - 90-120 days; skin - 2 weeks; intestine 2.5 days) these old and worn out cells need to be replaced on a constant basis

4. Reproduction - protists that undergo mitosis have produced two identical cells and thus have reproduced

5. Cancer - unfortunately cancer is mitosis of cells that we don't want to be undergoing mitosis.

Meiosis

is used to produce the sperm and the egg each of which have half the number of chromosomes as the starting cell. This is so that when a sperm fertilizes an egg the total number of chromosomes is equal to that in any other cell

Mitosis is essential for growth, development, and tissue repair, as it produces identical daughter cells for somatic cells. Meiosis, on the other hand, is crucial for sexual reproduction, as it generates genetically diverse gametes through the process of recombination and random assortment of chromosomes. Both processes are necessary for maintaining genetic diversity and ensuring the survival of species.

Mitosis is used for growth. Meiosis is used for the production of gametes. Gametes are used for reproduction. (sperm and egg cells are gametes)

Because mitosis is for non-sex cells only whereas meiosis is for sex cells, think of it as 'mito' (mytoe) not being a sex cell so mitosis is for non-sex cells

How are mitosis and meiosis simlair?

Meiosis and Mitosis are both the division of something. Meiosis is the division of chromosomes and Mitosis is the division of cells. They both occur in the cell cycle. Meiosis creates 4 daughter cells and Mitosis creates two complete cells.

Occurs in both plants and animals mitosis or meiosis?

Mitosis. Meiosis is only concerned in sex cells.

How is mitosis similar to mitosis?

Both meiosis and mitosis are forms of cell reproduction. They both have a prophase and an anaphase. Both are forms of cell reproduction/Both are forms of nuclear division. Meiosis occurs in generative cells and mitosis in somatic cells.

What phases are found in both meiosis and mitosis?

The phases found in both meiosis and mitosis are prophase, metaphase, anaphase, and telophase. In meiosis, there are two rounds of division (meiosis I and meiosis II), while mitosis only involves one round of division.

How are meiosis and mitosis similar?

they both have a prophase and an anaphase.

Meiosis II is similar to which process?

Meiosis II is identical to Mitosis. Meiosis is split into two stages, Meiosis I and Meiosis II. Meiosis I is similar to mitosis however the cells resulting from it have half as many chromosomes as the parent cell.

What are the similarities and not the differences between mitosis and meiosis?

Both mitosis and meiosis are processes of cell division, but they have key differences. Mitosis results in two daughter cells that are genetically identical to the parent cell, while meiosis results in four daughter cells with half the number of chromosomes. Meiosis is responsible for producing gametes for sexual reproduction, while mitosis is involved in growth, repair, and asexual reproduction.

What events occur in telophase?

Telophase occur in both mitosis and meiosis. During telophase nuclear membrane and nuclei reforms and in meiosis it further goes for meiosis 2 which is same as mitosis

What are 2 parts of meiosis that are similar to mitosis?

The part of meiosis that is similar to mitosis is inter-phase.

When does replication happen during mitosis or meiosis?

Replication occurs during the S phase of the cell cycle before both mitosis and meiosis. In mitosis, the replicated DNA is separated into two identical daughter cells. In meiosis, the replicated DNA is separated into four haploid daughter cells with genetic variation.

What step of meiosis is mitosis most closely related to?

Mitosis is most closely related to the second division of meiosis, also known as meiosis II. Both processes involve the separation of sister chromatids into separate cells.

What are 3 things Meiosis and Mitosis have in common?

Both meiosis and mitosis are processes of cell division that involve the duplication and distribution of genetic material. They both involve the replication of DNA, followed by the separation of chromosomes into daughter cells. Finally, both processes occur in eukaryotic cells.
