Ganesha is one of the most worshiped gods in the Hindu religion.

Ganesha is the master of Vighnas or obstacles. He adds obstacles in the path of our unwanted activities and removes obstacles from the path of the activities we want to execute. He is the destroyer of vanity, selfishness and pride. He also is the symbol of abundance since there is nothing stopping you from succeeding. He is the personification of material universe in all its various magnificent manifestations.

However, the more important reason why he is one of the most important Hindu gods is the fact that Ganesha diverts power of unwanted activities into the task we are struggling to execute with a very little power.

Many Hindus have a statue, painting or symbol to assist in praying to Ganesha at some time in their day. Since his main job is to remove obstacles in your life's path, he has become one of the most praised and worshiped of Hindu gods.

THE IMPORTANCE OF GANESHA:

Ganesha is also known as Vighneshwara, the master of obstacles.

1. Ganesha can introduce obstacles in the path of unwanted actions and remove obstacles from the path of desired actions.

2. He can divert power of unwanted actions into desirable actions.

3. By inserting obstacles in the path of opportunities that need extreme power, he enables us to tame them, which we would otherwise have allowed to pass by.

4. His vehicle, the mouse symbolizes the fact that he enables us to execute a mighty task with a small force.

5. By enabling us to let the obstacle remain as long as we wish, he enables us to wait for the best time to execute the action.

6. He enables us to store all unwanted thoughts in an unwanted part of our mind, symbolized by his huge abdomen.

7. By annual immersion of his clay idol into water, he enables us to transfer the accumulated unwanted thoughts into water, which symbolizes the Vishnu force. Vishnu force, is the assimilator of any unwanted thought or action and stabilizer of life. Thus, Ganesha purifies our mind annually.

These features, which no other Hindu god possesses, Ganesha has become, probably, the most popular Hindu god.

With an elephant head and a pot belly, the Indian God Ganesha is an antithesis of the more handsome Gods in Indian Mythology. But as usual there is 'more to him than meets the eye'. Lord Ganesha is the master of ceremonies and new beginnings. It is believed that inviting him first for any religious ceremony is auspicious and will bring prosperity to the inviter. This unconventional god, who also goes by the names Ganapati and Vinayaka, is a symbol of cosmic concordance. According to sacred texts in Indian Mythology his pot belly stands for vast capacity for synthesis and assimilation of perspectives and ideas. His body represents the cosmos in its entirety.
