He is probably the best brainwashing individual in America. He didn't have a church or spread the gospel that cults do in order to get to his members. He had about 50 person in a ranch which went according to the helther skelter doctrine. His people could kill for him and they did.

Now, Charles Manson is classified as a serial killer but that classification is done wrong. He didn't kill any of those persons but brainwashed his members to do so. His parole hearing is coming in 2012 but we all know he is not going to get it.

Manson became famous for all the wrong reasons. A fanatical cult leader, spouting twisted biblical scripture and claiming to be the Christ returned, was convicted of multiple counts of first degree murder, and originally given multiple death sentences. Manson and his 'family', a group of dropouts and runaways, on one long extended LSD trip, left a trail of murder victims wherever they happened to go. On Manson's orders these almost robotic followers did most of the dirty work, leaving Manson with solid alibies. Convicted in 1970*, Manson has hardly mellowed and still rants and raves if he can find a willing audience.

*The Supreme Court struck down all death sentences in 1972, finding it unconstitutional. Manson and his chums' had their death sentences reduced to life with parole. After many trys only Susan Atkins has left prison, curtesy of a pine box. She died in 2009 of a brain tumor in the prison hospital.
