The excitation system puts the load on the generator, so if it fails, the generator is liable to overspeed.

Think of it as the gears on a bicycle, where your legs are the power source, the gearing is the excitation system. If you're riding along, and suddenly your gears fall off, your legs will start to move very fast. You might hyper extend your knee, your foot might slip off the medal, you could hurt yourself in a bunch of different ways because you expect the resistance to be there and it is suddenly gone. The same applies to a generator - it's designed to run at specific speeds. Going significantly faster can cause all kinds of problems.

What is turbine overspeed trip?

Typically two balls with springs holding them down, When the turbine spins too fast, the centrifugal force pushes the balls past the resistance of the springs at which point they hit a lever that stops steam/compressed gas flow to the turbine and the turbine shuts down. They are designed to keep the turbine from going so fast that it damages itself or the piece of equipment it is driving.

How inefficiencies of compressor and turbine affect back work ratio and efficiency of gas turbine?

Inefficiencies in the compressor of a gas turbine cycle increase the back-work ratio and decrease the thermal efficiency of the gas turbine cycle, since they increase the compressor work.

Why the temperature and the pressure of gas are decreasing after flowing out from turbine?

The gas (working fluid) having flown through the turbine does some work on the turbine, converting its thermal energy into mechanical work produced by the turbine and coming out as an expanding gas with lower temperature and pressure.
