The mother hamster will kill the babies for their safety. It sounds strange, but if you disturb or touch the pups, the mother will think they are "infected" and will kill and actually eat the disturbed pup. Just make sure you don't touch the pups until they are old enough so the mother won't kill them.

For one, a male hamster might eat its babies simply because-- most likely if they're boys-- he will get territorial and probably doesn't want them. A female probably would if you get your human scent on her babies by touched them too soon-- They don't like human scent.

One more main reason a hamster might kill its baby is because sometimes there is something wrong with their baby that we can't see, so they don't want it.

There are a few reasons why:

1) She might just be lazy

2) She is a first-time/inexperienced mama hamster that's why she might be unable to cope with feeding too many hamsters.

A simple solution which I did was to use one of the toilet rolls that was inside their cage and carefully move the separated babies to their mommy. If you do not have any toilet rolls with you now, you could use a spoon and rub it in their bedding then move the babies to their mommy.

Will mother hamster nip at their babies when they need to move out of the cage?

I don't know myself but if you type in "ways to entertain a dwarf hamster" on Google and click on the second website. This website is really good and will explain everything!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!though just as a rule dont touch the babies for two weeks and only go in the cage to change the food and water. The mother will take perfect care of those teeny weeny babies!!!!!!!!!!

How do you know if the hamster has delivered all her babies?

You can visually inspect the nesting area to see if there are any remaining babies. Additionally, you may notice the mother grooming and caring for all of her babies equally if they have all been delivered. If you suspect there may be more babies but are unsure, take the mother and babies to a veterinarian for confirmation.

How do ring tailed lemurs raise their young?

When the babies are born, they cling to their mother's belly and eventually move around to cling to her back. Like all mammals, the mother provides milk for her baby, plus she helps keep it clean by grooming. The babies also learn what to eat from their mother.
