This varies depending on vehicle. On many vehicles this is a feature for safety or convenience. Consult your owner's manual.
If its not a feature of your particular vehicle, please ask the question again but next time include the make, model and year of the vehicle and select that vehicle's category.

Daytime running light module may be the problem
I am not a mechanic, however as an electrician it sounds like the running board lights are wired to the same relay as the interior lights. To check this, simply crank the truck, leave all the exterior lights off, turn on the interior light, then walk around the truck and look at the running board lights. If they are on then turn the interior light off and the parking lights on, check to see if the running board lights come back on. Depending on the make and model of the truck, I could be way off in left field and this info may not apply. uuummmm.....programing?
what about the day running lights? You want to know how to turn them off?If you do then once you start the truck turn the light switch to the left and that shuts them off.
Are you sure it is your running lights & not just the brake lights? A bad brake light switch (common problem) will cause your brake lights to stay on all the time because they are not wired to the accessory switch, meaning they will work whether the truck is on or off. Hope this helps!
If you mean the daytime running lights , just put your emergency / parking brake on when you are parked
== == Sounds like a defective head light switch to me. Have a mech check it with a curcuit tester to see which contacts are not live.
Perplexing Question. Daytime running lights stay one whenever the vehicle is running. There is no way to turn them off short of taking the fuse out or turning the car off. Indicators~ need more info.
daytime running lights for chevys are automatic. you cant turn them off. all you can do is control the high and low beams.
That is a safety feature, but to the left of steering wheel the first button you can turn to off to turn them off,but if you do that, you won't have day time running lights
I have a 1990 Chevy 1500 truck the brakelight switch is disconnected and it has no connector going to it. I replaced all the bulbs. And still my running lights are in the on position when i turn off the truck. My brake lights are still not working after replacing the lights. I have a RV brake accuator also under the steering column can you help me solve my problem?
yes you can in most cars putting on the emergency brake just a click or two will turn off the daytime running lights.
