because it says in The Bible that it is a sin. a woman's hair is considered her spritual covering. if the hair is cut even a tiny bit that means she is not spiritually covered essentially.
Most Pentecostals/Apostolics follow the teaching of the UPCI on the scripture passage of 1 Cor. 11:3-16, which is peculiar. They make mistakes with the Greek text and tend to be deceitful in citing word definitions, and they skip over the crucial element in the historical/cultural background of the passage.
There is no "spiritual" covering in the passage, and long hair is not the "covering"; neither does "long" hair mean "uncut" hair. It renders the passage confusing to substitute "long hair" for "covered", esp v6.
If "long" hair means "uncut" hair, the definition CHANGES when applied to a man. For example, a woman with hair to her waist but trims her ends 1 inch no longer has "long" hair. A man who comes into the church with a long pony-tail would only need to trim his ends 1 inch, and he would not have "long" hair, either. But, according to Pentecostals/Apostolics this definition does not apply to men. A man with a "trimmed" pony-tail has long hair, but not a woman.
First as a Pentecostal pastor, let me state that NOT all Pentecostal denominations holds to this teaching. Just like the Baptists, there are different denominations with-in the umbrella word of Pentecostals.
For example : Assemblies of God,
Church of God,
Foursquare,
Church of God of Prophecy,
Church of God in Christ,
Apostolic,
Holiness,
etc.
Those who are Pentecostal and adhere to the idea of not cutting their hair use 1 Corinthians 11:3-15 as their reasoning. However, there is a great debate about how those very few scriptures are to be interpreted. For a better understanding on the debate Google "1 Corin. 11:3-5 debate among Pentecostals".
So I will end it with this, MOST Pentecostal denominations DO allow cutting of the hair. Those who don't are a small portion of the Pentecostal group. Some that do NOT allow cutting of women's hair, are the Holiness and Apostolic.
As a Pentecostal pastor let me first say that just like the Baptists, there are many different forms of Pentecostal types out there. But for the majority, most Pentecostal women DO cut their hair.
HOWEVER, with that being said, there are some "Holiness" style Pentecostal denominations which do hold to the beliefs that a woman can not cut her hair.
Most Pentecostal church (All who are not within the Holiness church denom.s) do NOT teach that women can not cut their hair.
A Google search on "Holiness Pentecostalism vs Pentecostalism" is a good read and can go into even greater details about the differences between the two.
penetecoastal women are holy women of god they are different from the world, most people don't understand why holy women of god were and dress different from the world,we have to cover up our body and represent god, because the word saids be ye holy cause i'm holy that god world so if you see anything different about a holy women of god just don't ask question, just watch their life style
From my understanding (i.e. being raised in a Pentecostal Church and from personal experience). The Holy Bible states that "A woman's hair is her glory".
1 Corinthians 11:15
But if a woman have long hair, it is a glory to her: for her hair is given her for a covering
A woman would put her hair up when attending church or going out in public because having long hair is her glory, however, to have it down and showing off it's length is vain and sinful, ergo they wore their hair up for most occasions.
hair get dressed shower makeup shop
Pentecostal
The Pentecostal religion is where women wear skirts that pass the knee, and have hair that hasn't been cut, or is very long, and they don't wear makeup. Men don't wear shorts, and they don't get tattoos or piercings. The church is usually very friendly and welcoming, and the services have the preacher preach loud and well. There's a lot of singing, and some people crying.
long skirts usually
OH YEAH! i am a pentecostal and us pentecostal girls are so PRETTY whoo! :P, long beautiful hair and skirts are the cherry on top of our beauty (:
modest apparel....for the most part no makeup
The Apostolic church does not believe in women wearing pants. The Pentecostal denomination believes that women should wear modest apparel that does not pertain unto a man. (see Deuteronomy 22:5) Pentecostal Churches do this in obedience to the Bible. This has not changed in the New Testament. The women wear Long skirt or dresses and long sleeve blouse or jacket.
Makeup got really popular during World War II. Women who worked in factories making war materiel decided to become "their own women" and shake the taboos of pre-war America. Before the war started, only prostitutes and "flappers" (look it up, it would take too long to explain here) cropped their hair or wore makeup; "good girls" wore nothing on their faces and kept their hair long. During the war, they realized they could do whatever pleased them.
In the 20's the women used to wear their hair very short, but in WWII the women wore their hair longer. If you are looking for a vintage hair style these women; Rita Hayworth, Gene Tierney, Veronica Lake.
No, maybe Asian women usually have long hair.
We are all free to do as we see fit. As long as it doesnt contradict the bible.Church of Christ in some states make women wear head coverings. But in a pentecostal church it is not necessary
Anyone can have long hair bit it is not ethical or becoming for professional to have long hair, leave that for WOMEN!!!! Call me old fashioned.
