Diarrhea can be caused by several things - stress, improper diet and infection are probably the most common three reasons.

Curing diarrhea depends upon identifying the underlying cause for it. An infection needs to be treated with antibiotics (infectious diarrhea in hamsters tends to be bacterial in origin) and possibly fluid replacement therapy. Improper diet can be fixed through increasing the roughage/forage provided (typically a grass/alfalfa mix hay) and through restricting treats such as fresh fruits and vegetables. Stress diarrhea typically has to be waited out; as the hamster adjusts to the changes in the household, the diarrhea will resolve on its own. During this time, it is very important to provide a stable schedule for feeding, interaction and cage cleaning.

If your hamster is not eating, has a lot of diarrhea or diarrhea that doesn't start to resolve on its own within a couple of days, lays around and doesn't want to play or otherwise acts sick, take it to a veterinarian immediately. Hamsters are quite good at hiding when they are not feeling well, so when you see significant changes in behavior it means your hamster is very sick.

This can be caused by a disese called wet tail if your hamster has:

wet/smelly pubical region

Lack of appetite or drinking water

Not getting out of bed

Walking with a bend back like a elderly person

and many other symptions

If you susspect your hamster has wet tail you should take him/her to the vet immediatly as this can be fatal if not treated.

From first hand experence we went to the vet we were told that 'Harry the hamster' had wet tail. We brought the medicene prescribed by the doctor and gave it him as suggested.

We later found out from the pet shop ' Pets At Home' that it should be a good idea to feed him water through the pipet given by the vet. Also baby food brought from any shop in a bottle. But this baby food needs some water added to make it able to pass through the pipet also this should be done once or twice a day.

When trying to insert this pipet into a ill hamster's mouth is tricky so you need to go from the side away from the teeth and wiggle it in. Be gentle remember its an ill pet

Hope this helped you

Well, first of all, try to avoid this from happening. Unfortunately, not all hamsters survive after/during diarrhea. Hamsters can get diarrhea from too much fresh foods or stress. So, when you first get your hamster, leave it alone for 4 days to 1 week. If your hamster gets diarrhea, first try to recall what you have done before the sudden upset stomach of your hamster. Did you pester it? Did you feed it lots of vegetables? If you admit you have done question #1, go see a vet ASAP and the vet will treat your hamster with antibiotics. Note: Do not use "Wet Toe drops" It just hides the symptoms. If you have answered, question # 2 DO NOT feed your hamster anymore fresh foods for the time being and also bring your hamster to your local vet ASAP. Oh, and by the way, hamsters younger that 3 months, are easily prone to "Wet Tail" which is a kind of diarrhea. Just do the same thing, mentioned above and hopefully your hamster will get better soon! Make sure you try to treat diarrhea in a maximum of 3 days or else your hamster may be in grave danger of dying. Best of luck with your hamster! Sorry for the long post! Just wanted to cover every single detail. Thanks! Hope I helped!

your hamster probably has wet tail. A disease where hamsters eat too much fresh fruit and veg. because there is too mush water in fruit and veg. Stop feeding him fruit ang veg. and take your hamster to the vet as soon as possible. Also remember to clean your hamsters cage regularly

Unfortunately, if they eat too many fruits/veggies, they WILL get a very bad stomachache.

Yes, as hamsters can become dehydrated very quickly due to diarrhea; watery diarrhea can be fatal to a hamster within 48 hours. You should take your hamster to the vet as soon as possible.
