France has a border which is very close to Britain. Only separated by 32 miles of water. The Germans also feared Britain because by the time Germany did invade France, Britain was the only country still fighting and Britain's spitfire was a breakthrough in RAF technology. America was also in trade with Britain and France was surrounded by the allies of Britain. Britain could've attacked head on while America came from the North. Eastern allies stormed from the south and east. This is what happened and how Hitler lost the war.
Germany, Switzerland and Italy all border France to the East.
they didnt win it at all
Germany was allowed 3/5 of France, including the whole Atlantic coast, and France would keep the rest. France would have to pay for the expenses produced by the German troops stationed in France, and would also have to deport all of the Jews to Germany
Italy, Spain, France, West Germany, and the United Kingdom were all major nations who were not Eastern European countries and not under communist control.
* Limited to 100,000 man standing army * No Battleships or any capital ships * No Air-Force at all allowed * ALL overseas colonies given to Britain, Australia, South Africa etc * Many Eastern lands given to Poland, thus cutting off East Prussia from the rest of Germany * Alsace-Lorraine given to France and a few minor areas given to Belgium * Small area given to Denmark And most important of all... *Gigantic war reparations which Germany only finished paying off a few years ago (from 2013) After Germany failed to keep up on its war reparations France decided to occupy the Saarland area of Germany and kept it for years. Germany was economically devastated and had a tiny army and so was helpless and at the mercy of France. *Some other things I have failed to mention, probably some political items.
Germany conquered France in 1940, but didn't occupy all of it; "Unoccupied France" was a German "puppet" state ruled from the city of Vichy, France. Vichy controlled the remainder of France as well as some of the French colonies in North Africa, such as Casablanca.
they didn't because the Americans came and took back France.
