when the glow plug light is flashing during driving it is not the plugs that need replaced it normally means you have a bulb blown most commonly one of your sidelights and once replaced your glow plug light will stop flashing

I don't know what YOUR vehicle does specifically, but most diesels have "glow plugs" that come on when the engine is cold. The glow plugs warm a spot in the cylinder making the engine start much more easily, especially in cold weather. I can't speak for YOUR engine, but in general, there is usually a light on the instrument cluster that flashes while the glow plug is heating. Once the glow plugs are up to temperature, the light stops flashing and you can start the engine. If there is any doubt, read the section of the owners manual that describes the operation of the glow plugs.

The orange coil light should come on when the ignition is turned to the first position - it lets you know power is going to the glow plugs to warm them. I imagine that if the light is blinking the engine most likely has a glow plug out. This can often be tested by removing the preheat harness from the time/relay and using a test light. Attach the clip of the test light to the positive connection of the vehicles battery. Then probe the terminal of each glow plug, you might have to remove insulators and things to get to them. The result, if it lights up its good, if it does not, replace.
