Church of England was founded in 1534 when the Parliament of England declared that king Henry VIII was the head of church, not pope (Act of Supremacy).

The Anglican Church (the Church of England) is the historical continuation of the Christian Church that was started in the early centuries of Christianity. In the reign of King Henry VIII the Church of England began to separate from being under the jurisdiction of the Pope. This was a culmination of a number of schisms involving the Eastern Church, and the protestant movement that was begun in Germany by Martin Luther to protest at what was seen as corruption in the Catholic Church. After alltercations between Henry and the pope, not least the pope's refusal to grant Henry a divorce, he decided too to break away from Rome to form his own church - the church of England, with Christ at its head (and not the Pope) and himself and every subsequent monarch as the Supreme Governor on earth, with the Archbishop of Canterbury as spiritual head.

There is no particular founder of the Anglican Church. The Anglican Church (Church of England) separated from the authority of the Pope in the 16th century for a number of complex political reasons.

King Henry VIII established the Anglican Church when he passed the Act of Supremacy in 1534 AD and made himself (and later sovereigns) the supreme head of the Church of England.
The Anglican church was founded when King Henry (VIII) Tutor broke away from the control of the pope.

King Henry the VIII (8th) started the Anglican Church in England after he was excommunicated by the Pope.

Sorry!!

Henry was excommunicated by the Pope after he told the Pope, that he, the Bishop of Rome had no authority in this country! To support this view Henry and the Anglican Church cited the Authority, or Magisterium of the Catholic Church from the Seven Ecumenical Councils. No Bishop has the right to interfere in another Bishop's See or Diocese without his permission!! The Church had then been in existence some 1500 yrs, give and take a month or two!

The Anglican Church was first founded in an upper room in Jerusalem and brought to Britain by S.Simon Zelotes, brother of Our Lord and Saviour. Dorotheus, Archbishop of Tyre 303 AD. The first Bishop was Aristobulos, a brother of Mathius the Apostle and a friend of S,Paul.

The Church Councils of the Middle Ages, gave England the pre - eminence, because of its early beginning! According to Albanicus the Wise, the Church was here in the last year of the Emperor Tiberius 37AD.

Another PerspectiveKing Henry VIII requested that Pope permit him to divorce his wife and marry his mistress. The Pope refused and Henry married his mistress anyway and renounced Catholicism. He removed England from the Pope's control, seized many of the Church's assets and declared himself to be the head of the Church. Henry's repudiation of papal authority led to the Church of England's existence as a separate entity: a new branch of the Christian Church that was neither Catholic nor Protestant but a hybrid that became known as the Anglican Church or the Church of England. It became official in 1536. Henry funded the first printing of The Bible in English to spite the Pope.
