There was a relatively brief period in Jewish history when kings reigned. But their job too

was clearly to follow instructions and rule in accordance with Torah. Any king who let his

position go to his head and decided to rule on his own was soon brought down.

The Jewish house of worship is not called a church. It is called a synagogue. The spiritual leader of the synagogue or temple is the Rabbi.

Additionally, Jews are Congregationalist by nature as opposed to unified. Therefore, there is not one "supreme Rabbi" in the same way that there is a Pope in Christianity or there used to be a Caliph in Sunni Islam. There are also no regional leaders or directors like Orthodox Christian Patriarchs or Shiite Ayatollahs. There are some Rabbis whose opinions are more respected, but they have no greater or vested power on account of their "Jewish position".
