Kirk Fordice (born February 10, 1934 in Memphis, Tennessee; died September 7, 2004 in Jackson, Mississippi) succeeded Ray Mabus as the sixty-first Governor of Mississippi, serving between January 14, 1992 and January 11, 2000. Following the end of Fordice's term as Governor, Ronnie Musgrove (born July 29, 1956 in Tocowa, Mississippi) became the sixty-second Governor of Mississippi, serving between January 11, 2000 and January 13, 2004.

Meriwether Lewis was born in 1774, and died in 1809, three years after he famously crossed the northwestern US with William Clark.
