In covalent bonds individual atoms share electrons with one another forming compounds. A Water molecule is made up of one oxygen atom and two hydrogen atoms covalently bonded together. The oxygen atom is larger and the hydrogens are attached to it, near each other with the appearance of "Mickey Mouse ears". Because the oxygen atom has a greater number of protons, it develops a slightly negative charge since the electrons spend more time with the oxygen (Mickey's Head). This means the negatively charged electrons spend less time around the two hydrogen atoms, and these two hydrogen atoms (Mickey's ears) become slightly positive.
