The accident occured the night of the Oak Hills High School homecoming dance, October 21, 1972. The location of the accident was the intersection of Taylor and Rybolt roads in Green Township, Cincinnati, OH. A car carrying six Oak Hills students was westbound on Taylor Rd. when a vehicle heading southbound on Rybolt Rd. at a high rate of speed became airborne cresting a hill on Rybolt and landed virtually on top of the student's car. Five of the six occupants were killed. Their names: Deborah Lyn Eckert, Cindy Jane Kreuzman, Kim Marie Wullenweber, Alan Surnbrock and Linda Diane May. It should be noted that the driver and passenger of the "airborne" vehicle both survived the accident. Both were determined to be legally intoxicated, having purchased Alcoholic Beverages using illicit identification. The outcome of this incident led indirectly to the initiation of the use of Photo Identification on all Ohio driver's licenses. A memorial fountain was erected the following year in a courtyard at Oak Hills High School dedicated to the memory of the five accident victims.
