They were all from England.

Brian Jones (founder): was born in Cheltenham. He moved to London in the early 60s. When he placed an ad inviting musicians to audition for a new R&B group, Ian Stewart (another founding member) was the first to respond. Mick Jagger then joined too. Jagger brought his childhood friend Keith Richards to rehearsals, and eventually he was allowed to join. The four of them played some live shows together and then eventually settled on Bill Wyman as their bassist and Charlie Watts as their drummer.

Mick Jagger was born in Dartford, England. Prior to joining The Rolling Stones, Jagger was singing in an amateur band called Little Boy Blue and the Blue Boys.

Keith Richards was born in Dartford, England. He was childhood friends with Mick (then known as Mike). Jagger invited him to join Little Boy Blue and the Blue Boys. But after Mick and Keith met Brian Jones, this first and disbanded.

Bill Wyman was born in Lewisham, England. Prior to the Stones, he played in a band called The Cliftons.

Charlie Watts was born in London. Prior to the Stones, he played in Blues Incorporated.

LATER MEMBERS:

Mick Taylor was born in Welwyn Garden City, England. He was playing in John Mayall's Bluesbreakers when he was asked to join the Rolling Stones.

Ronnie Wood was born in London, England. Immediately prior to joining the Stones, he was in the Faces (previously known as the Small Faces).
