in Canada they are, at the end of Feb. they will be taken off the market and replaced with a new pill that fights pain like oxycontin does but won't get you addicted or high, also my pharmacist told me these new pills will be tamper proof, if you try to crush them they will turn to a jelly like substance and pretty much useles for recreational use.

They aren't discontinuing production of the drug but they are changing their process to make it safer for people to take. They are also trying to eliminate the many cases of abuse with this popular drug. Below is the answer i gave to another question.

Yes they are changing their manufacturing process. I am not sure but I think this is a mandate from the FDA. Currently it is popular for some users to crush their pills into a fine powder and injest them in a different manner. Even taking them orally you aren't supposed to crush them. Their thinking being that the effect of the drug is enhanced.

They have been working for quite a while on a method that makes Oxycontin totally ineffective if you take it any other way than swallowing a whole pill. For those who like to crush their meds they will basically have very little to no narcotic effect on you. This has all come about since this drug has become the number one narcotic that is abused.

Yes, as of now, there are no generic versions able to be manufactured legally by any company.

This is due to numerous lawsuits filed by Purdue Pharma L.P. (The Company who holds the patent for Oxycontin) against companies who were producing Oxycontin in generic forms beyond their "temporary time-frame agreement."

There were a few companies that Perdue Pharm L.P. created a temporary agreement between which enabled them to manufacter a generic form of Oxycontin. After this temporary agreement was over, some of the companies continued to produce a generic form. This led to the lawsuits, and ultimately now the inability for any company to legally create a generic form of Oxycontin.

Unfortunately, this means that there will most likely not be a generic form until after April of 2013.

This is all untrue they have been generic oxys for years. They the abg, 93, M, OP and a few others. And they still have them all. The only good ones are the oc's and the abg's the rest all gel up.

Oxycontin is the brand name for oxycodone.

It is manufactured by Purdue Pharma.

If you are contemplating using this drug, please note the following:

OxyContin contains oxycodone hydrochloride, which is an opioid drug and a Schedule II controlled substance with an abuse liability similar to morphine or diamorphine (heroin).

OxyContin can be abused in a manner similar to other opioid agonists, legal or illicit.

OxyContin Tablets are not intended for use on an as needed basis.

OxyContin may cause fatal respiratory depression when taken by people who are not tolerant to the respiratory- depressant or sedating effects of opioids. This is a potentially dangerous drug.

The concomitant use of OxyContin with all cytochrome P450 3A4 inhibitors such as macrolide antibiotics (e.g., erythromycin), azole-anti-fungal agents (e.g., ketoconazole), and protease inhibitors (e.g., ritonavir) may result in an increase in oxycodone plasma concentrations, which could increase or prolong adverse effects and may cause potentially fatal respiratory depression.

They still make it. You may be thinking of Darvocet, which has been taken off the market in the US and EU due to toxicity concerns and effects on the heart.

What would make your levels low for Oxycontin in urine test if taking everyday?

Why are you taking Oxycontin, and why are you being tested? If you are being legitimately treated for illness with Oxycontin, be upfront with the people who expect you to test; a note from your doctor or detailed receipt (with a diagnosis) from the clinic will help. Taking such medication may still disqualify you (at least temporarily) from certain jobs. If you are taking Oxycontin without a prescription (or even worse, recreationally), you are playing with your health. Stop it. If you can't stop it, get help.
