In 1990, Tim Berners-Lee created the first world wide web software. He had written some hypertext-based stuff ten years earlier while working at CERN, the big nuclear physics lab on the in Switzerland on its French border. Berners-Lee went over to a computer firm, then returned to CERN where in 1989 he wrote a proposal that would combine hypertext with the internet. In 1990, he got some help from Robert Cailliau and put together a revision that found acceptance. On the 6th of August, 1991, CERN went online using Berners-Lee's software. Wikipedia has a nice summary of the work of this interesting man. You'll find a link to that article just below this answer. Why not surf on over and check out this pioneer in computer connectivity.
In 1989 he made outlining ideas for an electronic document exchange programme.

Tim Berners-Lee created the World Wide Web. But world wide web is not to be confused with a piece of software. World Wide Web is more of a feature or aspect, than a piece of software.

IN THE 1990's
The first World Wide Web software, which was later named the WorldWideWeb, was created by Tim Berners-Lee in 1990. This marked the beginning of the development of the World Wide Web as we know it today.

CERN played a crucial role in the development of the World Wide Web by creating the foundational technologies that enabled its existence. Tim Berners-Lee, a CERN scientist, developed the first web browser and web server software at CERN in the late 1980s, thus laying the groundwork for the modern internet.
The first browser was called simply WorldWideWeb, the first web server was called CERN httpd. Both were developed by Tim Berners-Lee, the inventor of the Web, and released in 1990.See related Wikipedia link for more detail.

The first web browser, Worldwide Web, was written by Tim Berners-Lee in 1990. He used an NeXT Computer to write it. Berners-Lee is a computer scientist who lives in Britain.
