The Nazis came to power on 30 January 1933. On 1 April 1933 Jewish businesses in Berlin were boycotted and in the following few days Jews were banned from employment in the public sector at all levels from central government to local authority level. Most Jewish students were expelled from colleges and universities.

Before 1 April 1933 there were some cases of Jews being beaten up in the street with impunity by Nazi stormtroopers.

The Nazis began persecuting the Jews soon after they came to power on 30 January 1933. From late February 1933 onwards there were some cases of Stormtroopers beating up Jews with impunity in the street. The first anti-Jewish laws came into force on 1 April 1933. At that stage, however, the Nazis were more concerned with persecuting their political opponents.

The Nazis persecuted the Jews throughout their period of power in Germany (1933-1945), but the routined, large scale, systematic killings - that is, the Holocaust - didn't start till 1941. It then happened very quickly.

The first year where Hitler started to persecute the Jews was during his rise to power in 1933.

Hitler began persecuting the Jews in earnest in 1935 with the passage of the Nuremberg Laws that stripped Jews of many of their civil rights.
