Philip II of Macedon, was an often married king who was the father of Alexander the great. He ruled from 359 BC until his assassination in 336 BC. He is credited with the introduction of the Phalanx military corps.
Philip II was king of the ancient Greek kingdom of Macedonia in the northern Greek peninsula. He became hegemon (leader not ruler) of a united Greece (minus the Spartans) that Philip forced together to help him in his campaign to invade Persia.
