Production began in a barn on the grounds of Adventist Battle Creek Sanitarium in 1895 and was marketed by Dr. Kellogg's Sanitas Food Company. Dr Kellogg was the brother of Will Kellogg. The first factory was built in 1900 and the Battle Creek Toasted Corn Flake Company was incorporated in 1906.
Crunchy Nut Cornflakes was launched by Kellogg's in 1980. It was first introduced in Australia and New Zealand before expanding to other markets worldwide. The cereal gained popularity for its combination of crispy cornflakes and honey sweetness, which differentiated it from traditional cornflake offerings. Perky was a lawyer, businessman, promoter and inventor. His cereal, Shredded Wheat, was first sold locally in Denver and Colorado Springs. Quote from a Wikipedia article about Henry Drushel Perky: 'Although John Harvey Kellogg and Charles William Post are better known, Perky was a pioneer of the "cookless breakfast food" and it was he who first mass produced and nationally distributed ready-to-eat cereal.' The first flaked cereal was Granose Flakes prepared by Dr. John Harvey Kellogg in 1894, Superintendent of the Battle Creek Sanitarium in Michigan, and announced in the February 1895 issue of Food Health.
