The Spanish Empire consisted of the territories and colonies administrated directly by Spain in Europe, the Americas, Africa, Asia and Oceania. Columbus explored the island of Hispaniola where he met the land's native inhabitants. He and his crews returned to the Caribbean three more times. For close to 300 years the Spaniards settled in a territory which stretched from California and Florida and moved down to the most southern end of the American continent. At the beginning of their voyage the Spaniards had traveled into the boarders of what is now New Mexico.
Looking back to the beginning of the invasion, it's hard to picture how the Spanish managed to overthrow throw all the vast tribes and cultures that they did, but they had several advantages that the native people of the lands did not. The Spanish had weapons, gunpowder, iron, and the cavalry. The Spanish managed to intertwine themselves in rivalries between different native groups and use it to their advantage. They were able to create allies who had no concept of the Spaniards true intent. Another advantage the Spanish had was past experiences with colonization. The Spaniards developed their colonization methods through the experience of the reconquest of their original lands, which had been taken by the Moors. So they began to practice these same methods on the new lands they were coming upon.
They treated Natives horribly, one infamous example was the outright genocide of the Natives in Cuba, Dominica, and Mexico. Slavery, murder, including the abusive churches that had a tendency to torture and execute Natives who refused to convert to Christianity. Juan de Onate, first governor of New Mexico was known for hacking off the legs of Pueblos who refused to pay his hefty tax or refused to embrace The Bible.
Generally speaking, the Spanish conquistadors and explorers had a primary goal, that goal was to take as much gold and silver from the Native Americans as possible. The relationship between the Spanish colonists and Natives were weighted in favor of the Spanish. This caused a problem for the Natives. Many were killed by the colonists or died from European diseases.
the french were more kind. they learned to speak their language and they learned their traditions but the spanish were not, they only forced them to work with them

The French and Native Americans had a better relationship than the other Europeans during the 1600's. The french lived amongst the Native's and respected their ways.
The Dutch pretty much exploited the Native Americans for their rich resources. The Native Americans resented the Dutch, and the Dutch looked down upon them because they considered the Native Americans to be "lower" and "an uncivilized people".
