Louis Daniel Armstrong was born August 4 1901, in 'Uptown' New Orleans, Louisiana. Louis started his career in music in the Orleans Home for Colored Waifs where he joined the band playing the cornet.Working on riverboats in jazz bands Louis honed his playing style and eventually he was invited by Joe "King" Oliver, to join his Creole jazz band in 1922.
