Barbers did some of the same things they do now. They cut and trimmed hair and gave shaves. They were also the dentists of the time and would pull teeth that were bothering someone. They even would 'bleed' people, a popular remedy for all sorts of maladies in the time. They also did a thing called blood letting. This is when people open other peoples vanes.
