This is a contentious issue (see the discussion section for the animosity previously) and there are really three major perspectives, split into three general groups:
Answers A: Armenians are a distinct race of their own (usually espoused by Armenians)
Answers B: Armenians are Caucasian/White (usually espoused by Caucasian-Majority Countries)
Answers C: Armenians are Middle Eastern/Mediterranean (minority view of Orientalists)
Answers A
Answer A1:
Armenia is a race itself. It is a European country. Armenia is quite an ancient race and one of the oldest country.
Answer A2:
The views advocated by Answers B and C antiquated and obsolete. Asian is not a race. It was mongoloid which included native americans. However, we are in the 21st century and old racist white guys from 1890 no longer hold the only keys to the kingdom. Those old classifications are racists and basic. Armenians ARE NOT WHITE. They date back to antiquity, so who came first the chinese or armenians - we may never know before written history, but they are up there as one of the oldest continuous civilizations know to man. they were classified by old white men as caucasoid, but just cause you call them white don't make them white.
Answers B
Answer B1
Armenians are considered caucasian. It seems someone lacks education. There are only 3 races in the world caucasoid, negroid and Asian. Middle Easterners and Indians are all considered caucasian. The oldest people by historians are southern Africans then followed by the other two. Armenians are a mix of backgrounds. Assyrians, Indo-Europeans, and Middle Easterners. So technically can't be the third oldest country.
Answer B2
There are certainly more than three races in the world, but Armenians are certainly not a race unto themselves. The current racial paradigm as practiced by the United States includes: Whites, Black/African, American Indian and Aleuts, Asian, Native Hawaiian and Pacific Islander, and Mixed Race. Under these categories, the Armenians' physical characteristics are sufficiently "White" in appearance to justify their inclusion in that racial category, just as all Europeans, North Africans, and Middle Easterners are included in that category.
Answers C
Answer C1
The US Census Bureau definitions, while interesting, capture only what races are relevant from an American legal perspective and do not match "race" as is typically understood: a general skin coloration that can be noted across peoples from a variety of ethnicities and can be matched together. The US Census Bureau, for example, does not recognize any racial difference between Indians (from India), Thais, Indonesians, Chinese, and Ainu of Japan. However, these people look quite different from one another. The US Census Bureau is also nebulous about whether Hispanic is a race or not.
In this Answer, I propose more sensible race definitions that match what people would naturally see:
Under this paradigm, Armenians are predominantly of the Olive Racial Category. This coloration varies, but includes colors that might be mis-identified with a Southern German at their lightest and may be mis-indentified with Pakistani at their darkest. Armenians have this coloration, although they are admittedly at the lighter end of this color spectrum. Similar non-Armenian peoples who have this coloration include: Southern Italians, Southern Spaniards, Arabs, Persians, Amazigh (Berbers), and other North African peoples.
Armenians and Persians, together with the other Iranian people, are of the Aryan race. I strongly believe that the amount of Armenians with Persian ancestry is very high because of the past (origins). Note: Armenians who have surnames that are also common among Persians, have Persian ancestry.
No, I wouldn't have thought so. She looks Eastern but that's because of her Armenian heritage (In terms of race Armenians are similar to Eastern people such as Iranians, Caucasus folk and Ossetians). Armenians are Christians of the Armenian Orthodox Church.
Yes, Armenians do exist.
Hitler's goal of the Aryan race was similar to the goal of the Turks: to exterminate all Armenians.
Armenians belong to the indo-european people.
The Armenian Genocide was in fact a genocide. It was the mass killing of Armenians within the Ottoman Empire and had the intent of exterminating the Armenian race. This is because Armenians were hated by the Turks for being Christians and revolting against Turkish rule by wanting equal rights between Christians and Muslims.

Armenians are very industrious, artistic and linguistic. If you go on youtube and type in famous armenians or famous armenian inventions you can get a slight idea of the vast array of skills that Armenians have. My father, uncle and grandfather were all jewelers, handcrafting jewelry from drawings. My great grandfather owned a mercantile store and another great grandfather was a talented musician. My grandmother was a seamstress with the San Francisco ballet and one of my aunts is a painter. I was a manager at a loan office and my brother is a race car mechanic and repairs winery equipment. There isn't any particular skill set that is preferred by Armenians, we just consider ourselves competitive people and we like to excel or be the best at what we do.
Armenians are the most ancient nation in the world and they were the first to accept christianity!
Answer this question…Armenians
Armenians will probably be the nicest and coolest people you will ever meet. They have great hospitality!
The treatment of Armenians in the Ottoman Empire was created in 1916.
