Almost 95% of the population speaks Albanian as their native language, followed by Serbian and other South Slavic languages and Turkish.


Serbian is the second most spoken language in Kosovo. Since 1999, the Albanian language has become the dominant language in the country, although equal status is given to Serbian and special status is given to other minority languages.


The Law on the Use of Languages gives Turkish the status of an official language in the municipality of Prizren, irrespective of the size of the Turkish community living there.
