The official languages of Afghanistan are Pashto and the Dari dialect of Persian. Other languages include Turkmen and Uzbek, as well as Nuristani, Balochi, and Pashai. There are as many as thirty or more other minority languages in Afghanistan as well as the larger ones mentioned here. Much of the population is bilingual.

The languages spoken depend on ethnic group and geographical area. As the population is very diverse, so are the languages.
