What is the word 'does' when translated from English to Japanese?
One great thing about Japanese is that it has no third-person
verbs. Also, there is no "do." I'll explain. And I will make
mistakes in English on purpose to show you.
"do you play basketball?" would be "you play basketball?" in
Japanese. In polite Japanese, you simply add a "ka" sound to the
end of the sentence to make it a question.
"does he play basketball?" would be "he play basketball?" in
Japanese. In other words, there is no equivalent for "plays."
Also, in Japanese the word order is changed.
The most basic way to say "Do you play basketball?" is "anata-wa
basuke wo-shimasu ka"
Or, You basketball play "ka"?
