Dublin is a coastal city and is in effect close to sea level. It is built around the mouth of the river Liffey and Dublin Bay. Some of the land on which the city is built was reclaimed from the sea. To the south of the city are mountains.

Dublin is a coastal city built at the mouth of the river Liffey, with some smaller rivers in the area, so parts of Dublin are in effect at sea level. Most of the centre of the city is fairly flat, with only a few higher points. Going further out, there are mountains to the south of the city and as you head away from the river Liffey and the coast in other directions, it gets higher, but not significantly. The highest mountain completely within the county of Dublin is Seahan, being 2131 feet/650 metres above sea level. Kippure, at 2484 feet or 757 metres, is on the border between counties Dublin and Wicklow.
