a paediatrician is a physician (doctor) who specialises in the medical care of children from 24 weeks gestation up to 18-20 years old.

many paediatricians will sub-specialise into neonatology, premature infants, infants, adolescents, etc, or intoa special field (peadiatric neurology etc).

the role of the paediatrician is the same as that of many other doctors - to contribute a medical perspective to a care plan for an individual. the doctor will order tests, build a diagnostic picture, and determine the ultimate care plan with any necessary referrals.
