The medulla oblongata, often just referred to as the "medulla", controls autonomic body functions. It is the lower part of the brain stem.
The brainstem, which is composed of the Medulla, Pons and the Midbrain. It runs all the involuntary muscles and control the breathing, digestion and blood circulation.
