A Home of Our Own (1993) with Kathy Bates is listed as semi-biographical.

It is loosely based off of the childhood of the screenwriter for the film, Patrick Sheane Duncan. The name of Edward Furlong's character's name, "Shayne," is a variation of Patrick Sheane Duncan's middle name.

No, it is not. It is loosely based on a Scottish poem from the 1600s, and a Swedish art film from around 1960, which was also based on the old poem. None are true tales, merely stories.

Many, many movies are advertised as being, "based on true events," or, "inspired by true events," but they rarely ever use the actual story or events in the movies. If you ever wonder if a movie is really based on real events, look up the real events first, then watch the movie. Hollywood does not tell true stories, they merely take the idea, or setting, and make it up as they go along.

I own both the original, and the remake. And have seen most of The Virgin Spring by Ingrid Bergman, which is what the movie is more based upon.

See the Related Question below for more information about how (and why) movie studios lie and say their movies are based on (or "inspired by") true stories, when in fact they are entirely fictional.
