Gilbert's Potoroo, Potorous gilbertii, is a small member of the kangaroo family, specifically a rat-kangaroo (which is different to the kangaroo-rat of North America). Listed as critically endangered on several Australian and world listings, there are believed to be only about 30 to 40 individuals remaining in the wild.
They are found only in a small area in Australia's far southwestern corner.

Wild boars, Brahman bulls and short-tempered camels also deserve to be given a wide berth!
If counting snakes as an animal, I would count the Australian Taipan in.
Before the 1950s it was rare if a person survived a bite. After 1950 they got working antivenom, but there are still fatalities due to this snake nowadays.
There are other snakes that causes more deaths, but their poison is not considered as bad as the Taipan one.
Australia also has some pretty nasty Spiders, not to mention scorpions that can get up to 12 cm long and more than 20 different snakes that live in water.
