Angus and Malcolm Young claim they developed the idea for the band's name after seeing the acronym "AC/DC" on the back of a sewing machine owned by their sister ("AC/DC" is an abbreviation for "alternating current/direct current"). The brothers felt that this name symbolised the band's energy and power-driven performances.
The ONLY meaning for the band name AC/DC is Alternating Current/ Direct Current (ie. Electricity). Angus and Malcolm's sister Margaret gave them the idea when she read it off of the back of her sewing machine circa 1973. The bands first album "High Voltage" in 1975 should be enough evidence for the meaning of the bands name for the Evangelistic groups that blacklisted the band and who are the ones who came up with the other meanings in the first place.
The name acdc doesn't mean anything, its just the name of a type of battery either Malcolm and angus' sister or sister in law saw on her sewing machine or something like it, and thought it was a great name for the bands electric sound. They originally wanted to call the band the younger brothers, but it was already patened by Tina turner.
