The MKS (meter-kilogram-second) system is a variant of the metric system that uses the meter for length, kilogram for mass, and second for time. The SI (International System of Units) system builds on the MKS system but includes additional base units, such as the kelvin for temperature and the candela for luminous intensity. As a result, the SI system is more comprehensive and widely used in scientific and engineering fields.
There are two main systems of measurement: the International System of Units (SI), which is used by most countries, and the Imperial system, which is primarily used in the United States. The SI system is based on meters, kilograms, and seconds, while the Imperial system uses feet, pounds, and seconds.
The metric system is called the International System of units. In Europe, the French oversee the system, and the name is Le Système international d'unités (SI).So It can be called the metric system, the IS system, or the SI system.
The MKS (meter-kilogram-second) and CGS (centimeter-gram-second) systems are advantageous over the FPS (foot-pound-second) system because they are based on the metric system, which offers easier conversions and calculations due to its decimal nature. Additionally, MKS and CGS systems are widely used in scientific and engineering fields, providing consistency and ease of communication across disciplines globally.
The Metric system ex: centermeters, milliliters , and grams
The Metric System is a system of measurement that includes units like meters, grams, and liters, while the International System of Units (SI) is an internationally recognized system that includes base units like the meter, kilogram, and second, as well as derived units. Essentially, SI is a more comprehensive and standardized version of the Metric System, incorporating additional units and standards.

CGS is NOT common nowadays. MKS is common because the SI, the international system of units, is based on it.
grams in the CGS measurement system, Kilograms in the Si and MKS system, or pounds in the FPS measurement system.
SI system is a rationalised MKS system. The earlier MKS system provided different units for different physical quantities, which was not at all convinient to use. But, the MKS system provides single unit for different physical quantities, which makes it convinient. The CGS system could not find solutions to physical quantities not involving LENGTH,TIME and MASS. Hence, it could not be used. The FPS system or BUS system was not a metric system and hence was not useful.
Stress has the same dimensions as pressure: force per unit area. In the SI, therefore (or in other MKS systems), the units would be newtons / meter2.
The relevant SI bases are MKS.Length: cgs system uses centimetre, MKS uses metre = 100 centimetres. Mass: cgs system uses grams, MKS uses kilogram = 1000 grams. Time: they both use seconds.
The difference is the tranguillary measurements of the two said units
The extended form of the MKS system of measurement is called the International System of Units (SI). It includes additional units beyond the meter, kilogram, and second, such as the ampere, kelvin, mole, and candela.

The unit of temperature in MKS (meter-kilogram-second) system is the Kelvin (K).
