Air guns have NO firing pin. An air valve or piston forces air or C02 into the barrel behind the pellet or BB and this shoots the projectile out of the barrel.

PCP ( PerCharged Pneumatic) airguns and rifles work very similar to a C02 gun. The major difference is the driving force. A C02 rifle produced several hundred pounds of pressure that drives the pellet, the normal C02 cylinder is small. This chamber is charged to between 2000 and 3000 PSI with a pump or scuba tank. What is difference between air rifles and air soft?
Air soft fires a 6mm or similar size plastic ball or BB. It may sting if it hits you. But protective clothing will protect you in most cases. The FPS (Foot Per Second) usually runs between 200 FPS to 500 FPS Hence the word Air Soft. Air Soft guns and rifles usually have a red or orange tip to let you know it's an Air Soft air gun. Air Rifles are similar in appearance (NO Red Tip) but that's where the similarity ends. Air rifles have a FPS range of 250 FPS to over 1,500 FPS. They fire a metal projectile usually a BB or Pellet. BB guns / Rifles usually fire up to 600 FPS but Pellet guns / Rifles go way beyond that.
