If it's louder when the vehicle goes around a sharp corner, I'd be suspicious of CV joints. If the clicking gets faster as you speed up you might also check your tires. I could not figured out why my vehicle was making that noise til i realized it was a nail in my tire clicking on the street every time it went around.

Possible cause. I think 90 percent of the time a connection is bad on the battery plus or minus post and you need to disconnect and clean them real good. Put a little bearing grease on them also. 5 percent of the time the nuts are loose on the starter relay post or battery cable post on the starter. The next things are the external or internal starter relay is bad and lastly the starter is shot. A test light or voltmeter makes locating the problem a snap. Check the wiring between the engine and the chassi of the car or connect the engine directly to the battery - (negative)

The clicking noise is usually caused by a battery that is not powerful enough to turn the starter motor. Try cleaning your battery connections first before buying a new battery. You can get a post-type battery cleaner brush at any parts store. If it has side posts, use a wire brush.

This happened to me this morning, I tried to start my car and there was a single click whenever I turned the key. I have a new battery but noticed the charge had been lower than normal lately. I popped the hood and turned the battery cables slightly and the car started and the battery charge indicator went back to normal. Figure the starter wasn't getting enough juice and that the battery cables were the problem.

Commonly, this is a sign of low electrical power going to the start system. Sometimes it may be a weak or discharged battery (did you leave the lights on? Is the alternator working properly?) It could be as simple as a bad connection at the battery terminal, or perhaps the cable connection to the start relay, or maybe the relay or the starter motor itself is defective. Try getting a jump from someone (follow the instructions in your cars' Owners manual): if it's a simple case of a discharged battery, that will get you going.

If a car doesn't start and it has a clicking noise, it could be the battery. Another reason it could be is the starter is out.

What if your car makes a clicking sound when you try to crank it?

If your car makes a clicking sound when you try to start it, try to jump the battery. If that starts it, check the electrical system and if it was the battery, replace the battery. If jumping it does not fix it, have a mechanic look at it.

Why do I hear a clicking noise when turning the key in the ignition then on the 3rd try the car does start?

The clicking noise you can hear is the starter solenoid clicking into place. If the starter motor does not turn the engine immediately, it is probably the best place to look. it sounds like the starter motor is faulty.

What if the alarm on your 94 Lincoln Mark VIII went off for no reason and now the car won't start Is the car alarm designed to stop the car from starting if it goes off and will reseting it fix it?

Try disconnecting the battery for at least 10 minutes and then reconnect and try. Check the starter, it don't all the time go right out it will crank but not turn the engine over when it start to go bad, then you you will hear the clicking latter on.

If a car wont start but all lights come on and when you turn the key you hear clicking is that the starter?

Yes, the clicking is the starter, but there's probably nothing wrong with it. Your battery doesn't have enough juice to turn the starter motor (draws lots of current), but still has enough to turn on the lights and accessories. Try jump starting it or trickle charge the battery.

A clicking sound when you try to start the car is a dead battery. It may be that the alternator is not charging it properly.

Your car wont start just makes a clicking sound?

That could be the alternator or the battery. Try jump starting your car with another car's battery. If it still does not start, it is probably the alternator. If it starts, your battery is dead.

My car makes a clicking sound when I try to start it but it the engine won't turn over?

The clicking sound is probably your solenoid trying to work. Your battery has just enough electricity to make the solenoid operate but not enough electricity to make the starter work. You probably have an almost dead battery.
