The belief in one god is called Monotheism.

But don't get confused with the belief in many gods which is Polytheism.

It's called monotheism. If you believe in a single supernatural spirit, that is monotheism.

Compare with polytheism, like the ancient Romans and Greeks. They had gods for all kinds of tasks. Poseidon was the god of the sea. Vulcan was the god of fire -- and where we get the word "volcano."
