The Luger was a standard issue sidearm in WW1. The P-38 pistol replaced it in WW2.
I don't know about other countries, but in the U.S. the standard issue handgun is the Beretta M9 which is basically the same as a 92FS. Some units in the military such as the SEALs, use other guns...Sig 226, I believe.
