Midbrain, pons, and the medulla oblongata
The two main parts of the midbrain are the tectum, which includes the superior and inferior colliculi involved in sensory processing, and the tegmentum, which includes nuclei involved in motor control and arousal.
The brain stem.
The superior colliculi are involved in processing visual information and coordinating eye movements in response to visual stimuli. They also contribute to orienting the body and directing attention to important sensory inputs in the environment.
The cerebral peduncles are located in the midbrain, which is the uppermost portion of the brainstem. They consist of white matter tracts that connect the cerebral cortex to other parts of the central nervous system, facilitating communication between different brain regions.

The Midbrain is the topmost part of the mesencephalon, and so damaging the mesencephalon could potentially harm the midbrain, but only if that is the part of the mesencephalon you damaged.

Alcohol takes over the midbrain and shuts down the Frontal Cortex. When this happens a persons ability to make good decisions is lessened. That part of the midbrain that is concerned survival food fear and sex takes over.
The part of the brain stem between the diencephalon and the pons is the midbrain, also known as the mesencephalon. It plays a crucial role in motor movement, auditory and visual processing, and regulating sleep-wake cycles. The midbrain contains structures such as the tectum, tegmentum, and substantia nigra.

The midbrain is the most cephalic portion of the brain stem.
