Snoods length in males seem to be a good indication of parasite resistance in the individual. Although it is not an organ the longer the snood, the higher the parasite resistance.

Female turkeys prefer males with longer snoods and is a way of sexual selection.

Male turkeys use their snoods to attract mates. When they are strutting, they engorge with blood making them very red. Males with longer snoods are treated with more respect by other males and are preferred by females.
