a good idea if your starting off is the dark elf

you get great abilities, and you can summon the ancestor guardian, which will really save you in tight spots. Also, I recommend going under the sign of the shadow. It is usefull because you gain the ability to turn invisible for a minute, which is useful for stealth missions.

Wood Elf, Custom class, choose skills that you would most prefer for YOUR assassin. Oblivion is all about personalization, just because you choose your first skills that will level you up, you can level all the others for fun

There are no actual classes in Skyrim. There are character builds that you can form yourself using the perk trees. If done correctly, these can resemble the traditional RPG classes.
