What is I Am Legend?

I am Legend is the latest incarnation of "The Omega Man". The Omega Man starred Charlton Heston in the 1960's and was a variation on the man made mutation disaster movie.

I am Legend stars Will Smith and in this movie, he is a scientist who is trying to correct the disaster that was made by a chemical alteration in the gene pool. The movie is dark and frightening as is typical of most of the genre.

The history of the genre traces back to the classic novel "The Time Machine" where we see the first of the gene alteration stories in the Morlock. The return of the scientist to help the over world inhabitants is the genesis of these movies.

This movie is nicely done and is the latest in the ongoing theme, among which are 28 days later and Omega Man. They are thought provoking themes.

As above, the film includes some 'scientific things'. Dr. Neville (Will Smith) is an army cadet as well as a scientist, with a family and 1 dog, Sam (Samantha).

The disease rapidly spreads from a cure for cancer that went dangerously and seriously wrong - sending millions of the innocent infected into flesh-eating 'dark seekers', as Dr. Neville referes to them. They have incredible strength and aggression, loose all their hair, and mutate much taller and stronger-looking. they have the slgith appearance of fictional Zombies.
